Description:

I just completed this paperback cover for a novel published by Picador. It's a historical fiction built around an imagined relationship between Winifred Wagner and Adolf Hitler.
The ornamental border comes from a playbill for Richard Wagner's opera Parsifal, and it frames a Nazi propaganda photo that I tinted.

I also customized/re-drew the title type. It's based on a typeface named Becker that came with this awesome buch.

Thanks for the super-cool (and kinda creepy) project, Henry!

The first image is the approved design, the second and third were also submitted.

This is great. I also really like the first alternative cover a lot. Very nice!

Thanks Jason! Steve: I liked that first alt. cover too. There's parts in the story where Hitler is telling fairy tales and staging puppet shows with Wagner's grandchildren...I was going for a 30s German children's book look and feel.

Having worked on the hardcover I can say I love this paperback. Good find on the playbill.

These are great. Love the feel. Nostalgic but not expected.
