Description:
6 comps for a novel based on the life of Billy The Kid. The design on the far left of image 1 is the approved cover.
There's a passage of dialogue in the book where The Kid relates his belief that there's one bullet out there (flying around in the ether, I guess) meant for each of us. For him, life is what you make of the time before your body and your bullet intersect. The first 4-5 comps were based on this concept.

For me the first cover reflects that time period and adds the mood to the old west. Nice rendering of the only photo of Billy the Kid that exists. Nice cover!

So sorry to see that the most forgettable solution was chosen. The concepts are so good on the others-- can't pick a favorite: The five bullets missing him, the single bullet chamber, the coffins. All are so strong.
