Much of my inspiration for this book came out of the conversations I had with the author, Robin Karson, about how books work, and especially how an illustrated book can balance the importance of the text and the images. This book is both a history of the country-place era, and the catalog of the show of photographs (also called A Genius for Place) by the photographer Carol Betsch.

Library of American Landscape History is a not-for-profit corporation, which produces books and exhibitions about North American landscapes. Find out more at www.LALH.org
