Assignment: Create a logo for a magazine named Charm that demonstrates the irony intended by H.L. Mencken when he called Baltimore “Charm City.” Create two covers for the magazine using headlines provided by the Magazine Writing class. Create editorial spreads for a department in Charm concerning local venues. Text provided by Magazine Writing class.
First Version: Intended to utilize star element to recall the stars used in the construction of Baltimore's numerous rowhomes. Chose a distressed typeface to illustrate the ironic feel of the magazine's title.
Second Version: Enhanced the wood type look of the distressed typeface by angling manually to imitate the look of an actual wood press. Extended the star to create ligatures between the H and R.
