This cover concept was borne out of a photo of a banner I took ten years earlier from my rooftop one summer day as the Pride Parade was passing down below. The banner cracked me up: it showed two hands reaching up exuberantly with the word "Girlfriend!" on it. When this book's cover was beginning to be discussed, I couldn't shake the memory of that banner.... Luckily I found the photo, brought it to the cover meeting, and sold everyone on the idea. I'm proud to say that our marketing department frequently refers to this cover when they want something fresh, fun, and easy to sell.
