Description:
Playing with Pictures: The Art of Victorian Photocollage
The first comprehensive look at the little-known phenomenon of Victorian photocollage, this book presents imagery that has rarely—and in many cases, never—been reproduced. Created by upper-class women who laboriously cut out and collaged the newly popular photographic calling cards, or "cartes de visites", with hand drawn and painted images to make whimsical, and often surreal, compositions. The exhibition traveled to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Art Gallery of Ontario.
Playing with Pictures was named a Wall Street Journal "Best Photography" book in 2009.
