Description:

The Jelly Babies test tube rack was designed to enhance the family experience, stimulating children sharing their favourite flavours with other peers in a fun and new way.

“Screaming Jelly Babies” is an experiment that is practised in school chemistry classes. What they do is to put a jelly baby in a test tube with an oxidizing substance heated previously.
When the jelly baby touches this substance, it starts burning furiously making a sound that some people describe as screams.
Children and teens like to take videos of this experiment and upload them in youtube.com.
This experiment was considered a very exciting and funny way to use a sweet, so it was decided to take it to the next level, designing Jelly Babies containers, which would recall this memory.
Design idea development
These containers are plastic text tubes that are sustained by the secondary packaging, a holder made of carton. Each tube would have one flavour, completing six tubes in a yellow test tube rack.
The family experience of this new Jelly Babies packaging would be encouraged when the mother or the leader of the children’s group gives one test tube to each child, and if one who has got the lime flavour, and would like to get another flavour, trades it with a peer.
The top of the Jelly Babies impersonating its characters could be used as a toy. As the test tubes are reclosable, they could be reused, filled again with other Jelly Babies.
