Description:
This was a live project for the company innermost which we were asked to make a lamp from sheet materials with manufacture in mind. Having gone through many designs and still not content with what I was coming up with, I just held up the bulb up in front of me and realised that the low wattage compact fluorescent bulb was beautiful in itself, and that I wanted to create something that would celebrate this and give it a presence.
Many lamps are also spoilt by the protruding wire, which is why I also wanted to somehow incorporate the wire into an aesthetic feature. Being that minimum waste is important to keep cost down, the ’stand’ is made from two identical space efficient components, also reducing number of production lines, apart from a small difference in their angles. To save materials it is actually the bulb holder that holds the lamp together. The stand also casts quite a beautiful shadow.
