Transparencies: 10 Poems is a book of concrete poetry about my childhood. The transparent nature of memory drove the formal structure of the project. Each poem is a free-standing work, but each one also layers on top of the other poems to create a whole, translucent structure. Each poem interacts with the visual structure of the poem underneath, just as memories (particularly childhood memories) are not absolute and contained, but are influenced by other memories. Memory is changeable and unreliable, but also something we gain knowledge from and aestheticize through nostalgia.
