In early 2005 (literally, Jan 3 I think) I was given the opportunity to merge my long-time fandom for DMB's music and my design skills. The band was wrapping up studio work on their 2005 release "Stand Up" (then untitled), and reached out for concepts on a re-imagined 'firedancer,' their long-standing icon. Going from words like "earthy/organic" and "urban," these were some of my concepts.
In the end, they decided to have their Art Director (the talented Wyndsor Hug) chrome-out their existing dancer, likely considering potential fan response to the "remixing" of a time-honored symbol of the band. Her initial concepts, I am pleased to say, where chrome added to a varriation of my own firedancer in "leap" pose... before they chose to use the original form.
Also shown are my takes on an organic, "living" version of their original Firedancer's pose, as well as conceptual-teasers to help visualize the re-imagined, 'leap' pose :)
