Compared with the booming art scene in neighboring China, the Japanese market is chronically undervalued. In Tokyo, even work from established names like pop artist Takashi Murakami and the famously eccentric painter Yayoi Kusama sell for a fraction of the multimillions of dollars fetched by works of their Chinese counterparts.
