So true! As a typesetter, I loath the Em-Dash, especially when it proliferates ... they can cause bad breaks, flipped quote marks, and give the appearance of loose lines in a large body of text.

I love em dashes! I know I should qualify that opinion with a reason why, but I just do. Is there really an up trend in em dashes? I haven't seen an increased usage in my work.

I have a love/hate relationship with the —em— dash. I love it when used very sparingly for emphasis. I hate it when used stylistically instead of using commas. That's when I find the em dash causes more trouble than it's worth.
