It is a masterstroke of Helly Nahmad Gallery to launch a show devoted to 1960s Picasso when London is awash with exhibitions of pop art. Images of soup cans and vacuum cleaners are precisely what 80-year-old Picasso was up against in the early 1960s, when he found himself a reluctant bastion of the establishment, too grand still to be relevant to the avant-garde.
