“crEATe.” Book Review

Eating, Design And Future Food

by matt sung | March 09, 2009

crEATe is a sourcebook on new visual developments and trends within food, design, hospitality and packaging design.

Trend analysts Chris Sanderson and Martin Raymond from the London firm The Future Laboratory put together crEATe.: Eating, Design and Future Food (Gestalten) as a survey of contemporary food culture. What interested me most was the emphasis they placed on how design plays a role in many aspects of food not limited to packaging and branding. Since the book covers such a wide range there’s only so much detail on each topic, but it’s a great way to get a broader sense of the food industry and culture we live in today. “The book examines everything from the way we eat, the interiors and furniture of innovative restaurants and shops, industrial design and the packaging of food to branding and consumerism.”

The design of the book itself is very neatly done, divided into 7 chapters: “Food Activists, Wholehearted, Smart Food, Packaging, Food Spaces, Typologies, and Future Solutions.”
