The University of Washington Press has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time book designer. The position includes designing and supervising production of approximately 25 scholarly and illustrated books published by the press in the social sciences and humanities each year. The designer will work with staff, authors, and outside publishing partners to develop conceptually creative and unique solutions for the clear presentation of scholarly material. They will develop design solutions that address both editorial and marketing needs while assuring quality design standards for both print and digital purposes.

The UW Press is the leading publisher on the arts, cultures, and history of the Pacific Northwest. In addition to these regional strengths, the Press has distinguished lists in Native American, Asian, and African Art; Asian Studies; Native Studies, Environmental Studies; Natural History; Science and Technology Studies; and American Ethnic Studies. The Press is particularly known for the excellence of its illustrated books, with a history of producing collaborative and award-winning publications through partnerships with museums, tribes, and cultural organizations.

Requirements include 3+ years book design or relevant print design experience and excellent typographic skills, conceptual abilities, and design talents. Desired qualities include 1+ years interactive design and development experience.
