I found this video of J.J. Abrams speaking at the TED Conference incredibly inspiring. He discusses his films and his love of mystery, which I think is very valuable in my field of book design. I always try to create something intriguing that inspire potential readers to actually open the books, and subtle mystery comes in play there I think.
Wired is one of my favorite magazines, and the issue that J.J. Abrams edited (which came after this talk) is absolutely fantastic, not just from a content standpoint, but also in its design. House Industries supplied the fonts and everything is sleek and somewhat futuristic. It's full of the mystery that Abrams discusses at TED and it's really cool for me to see one of the final products that sort of stemmed from this lecture. Idea, action. Very cool. Very inspiring.
