Matthew Barney's artwork has always had a large impact on my work. I remember when I first saw his films, including "The Cremaster Cycle" and "Drawing Restraint 9", I marveled over how they were powerful mind-altering works that penetrated deep within one's subconscious, while being highly thematic and symbolic at the same time. His works are, in my opinion, on one level contemporary expressions of surrealism, and on another level they transcend the boundaries of art and genre, creating something entirely unique and idiosyncratic. Barney is a true predecessor to artists like Beuys, and an artist who is significantly impacting on the world of art today.
