“100 Essential Tips for Cutting Copy” X-ACTO advertisement, c. 1980s

I found the above X-ACTO advertisement and had a few additional laughs while flipping through the March/April 1987 issue of Step-by-Step Graphics. Sadly, many of the tools and processes for graphic design professionals discussed in the issue are a bit foreign to me.

The California Raisins grace the front cover of this 1987 issue. A full-length article in the magazine titled, "Claymation Raisins: A New Wrinkle on the 'Plasti-scene'" highlights the process behind the work of Will Vinton studio.

So I'll leave you with a couple of many commercials you may recall from your childhood:

Michael Jackson w/ the California Raisins

Ray Charles w/ the California Raisins

I love and miss the old cutting and pasting. And I'm looking forward to going through all my old type books looking for unique fonts to scan and digitally cut and paste them.
As for the raisins?
Yuck!

I went to college when they taught both the old cut/paste and new computer design. I feel fortunate to know where we came from and how far we've come.
