Typography Crimes meet Max Kerning
| October 08, 2008

Who is Max Kerning? He is a man obsessed with good letterspacing and believes "clean type is godly type."

He says, "When I look around, I see too much disorder in the world—needless chaos and messes. I sense panic and stress. In fact, I feel it myself. It rattles my soul and gives me an ache in the head and a sourness of the stomach. Because everywhere I am assaulted by sloppy text that is displeasing to the eye. This must be stopped..."

Though the fictional character of Max Kerning is so humorous, borderline off the wall—his manifesto is sophisticated and should be read by anyone looking to achieve better typographic skills. Max's manifesto, "Letters to Live By" can be downloaded as a pdf in the "Manifesto" section of his site.

(I discovered this site the other day via NOTCOT)

I love it! For all those wondering who's responsible for this, Typophile did some digging and linked it to Extensis, makers of font management Software, Suitcase.

Typophile was right. The other day I saw an ad on I.D.'s newsletter for Extensis Suitcase Fusion 2 with Max Kerning's face on it:

Mystery solved. I feel tricked. But I still think it was a smart campaign.
