March 14, 2008
On March 1st (one day before the official opening), I had the chance to see the new Color Chart exhibition at the MOMA. Though I sometimes have difficulty with full appreciation of color field paintings, all the work came together beautifully in the show. The contrast with the white and spacious gallery walls was striking, and the flow of color in the gallery was a thoughtful progression.
I was not able to photograph in the show, but below are photos from a floor installation that was separate from the gallery space. This piece is titled ZOBOP!, and is made by multi-colored vinyl tape. The artist is Jim Lambie.
But, the MOMA has launched a gorgeous, interactive website to coincide with the exhibition, where all works can be viewed in high quality (well, for the web). You can sort by medium, timeline, and artist. Some of the artists in the group show include Jim Dine, Marcel Duchamp, On Kawara, Yves Klein, Gerhard Richter, Edward Ruscha, Richard Serra, and Andy Warhol.
The show was organized by organized by Ann Temkin.
