Erica Fisher’s inspiration

Library of Congress - Old Print Ads
| February 15, 2008

When I'm looking for inspiration, I like to browse through the LOC's digital print collection. Truly gifted artists created beautiful, elaborate artwork for products like Smith Brother's Pure Borax. I believe I also saw an ad for Bone Linament. I don't think I want to know what that was intended for.

Try searching with keywords "advertisement", and my new favorite, "circus".

I love this stuff. It really is inspirational.

Yeah, I'm really glad I stumbled onto it a while back. Even if I don't get any ideas from the images, I can at least get a giggle from some of the advertised products. Merchant's Gargling Oil for Man and Beast? I love it!
