Although it's just a pile of type and simple graphics, the Girl Effect ad is as compelling as it is beautiful. I've always said that music is the backbone of the moving image. Done right it can make a video soar and the score of Girl Effect does just that.

I've always loved title design. I stumbled upon Galya Kay's portfolio while researching the differences between the terms "Based on the story" and "Inspired by the story" in screenwriting and up popped her thesis on adaptation theory. What struck me about her design process and philosophy was how similar it was to my own. Like Kay, I consider myself a visual storyteller. My days as a video editor gave birth to this intrinsic need to find the visual narrative within any given concept. What are the emotional and intellectual triggers that make this concept compelling and remarkable? How can I play up those characteristics? How can I visualize those feelings or play on the concept's themes? Storytelling, to me, is an intricate puzzle. A constant dance between the heart and the mind. It has to be enthralling enough to touch you but plausible enough to keep you engaged.

Well... back to the matter at hand. Kay's work is elegant minimalism. Her designs are lush, organic, bold and incorporates a lot of texture. While I haven't exactly defined my style yet, I'm sure it's leaning towards something similar.
