Type in the Toronto subway
Joe Clark writes a comprehensive critique of the state of typography on the Toronto subway system, from great beginnings to the chaos of today.
The article goes on to describe the poor state of information design for signage across the subway system, provides comparisons with New York’s system and shows us what can happen to type when people really don’t care (check out the letterspacing on Leslie, about halfway through the article). It makes you appreciate, even more, just how good London Underground’s type system really is. (credit: Ministry of type)

I love designing with my hands, far removed from a computer. I also love typography. Over the years I've collected tons of type samples, many in photographic form. I've always known I wasn't the only one doing this, so it was refreshing to find a flickr pool dedicated to folk type. Go check it out for yourself and add your own contributions.

Open or closed this radio is an elegant unit is the headline written for the Brionvega ts522 portable radio. I couldn't have said it better. The ts502 has gained international recognition and secured a spot in MoMa's permanent display. This is a simple, beautiful piece of industrial design that has been influencing electronics manufacturers since 1965.
Recently reissued (ts522) with up-to-date technology and a return to its original interface panel.
Designed by Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper
