hmmm. Obviously Chip Kidd, Jon Gall, John Gray, Peter Mendulsund, Emily Mahon, Paul Buckley, Tom Brown, Henry Sene Yee and many many more.

My parents were both graphic artists. I respect their work and my partners work a great deal. A good collaboration and diverse exploration of concept and visual language excites me.

Finally, my wife and son inspire me on countless levels as constant pillars in my life when all else seems uninspired.

Alian Design and theBookDesigners

Alian Design was a company started by Alan Hebel and Ian Shimkoviak. The company handles all types of design jobs and then later refined there expertise in book making, publishing, printing and all book-creation related services. This re-focus came forth as a fusion of Usana Shadday, Scott Erwert and the original Alian Design team to for theBooDesigners. We have been in business since 2008 and continue to serve the needs of both established publishers and independents alike. Taking projects from start to finish, cover to cover and all the way through print and delivery allows us to have a well controlled manufacturing process that results in a better designed book, a better reading book and a better printed book. Our services span the gamut of design, editorial, packaging, production, manufacturing/printing and delivery. This one-stop aspect of our business helps clients get all the work done in a place where the book is seen all the way through to delivery and not handed off midway to a second party who may be unfamiliar with the project. This results in a more cohesive end result and strong client/designer/printer relationships.

I 2008, theBooDesigners will be at the BEA in L.A. to showcase their work and services representing the individual work and achievements of the 4 owners in their new incarnation as theBooDesigners. Hope to see you there.
