I first saw it in Pinhead Gunpowder liner notes... It's so neat and consistent but awesome and edgy too. What a punk :)

It makes me happy that there is someone who writes and draws stories about Asian Americans and tackles straight-on some of the most difficult feelings and issues Asian Americans face. Shortcomings, which comprises issues 8-11 of Tomine's zine Optic Nerve, is hilarious at times, made me cringe at others, and raises more questions than it answers. It is absolutely awesome that he has voiced these conflicts and left them for us to consider.

This woman is incredible. I saw her speak when she was promoting "Embroideries," and she's eloquent, smart as a whip, hilarious, and a wonderful role model. I haven't seen the film adaptation of "Persepolis" yet, and have high hopes given that she had co-director creative influence on the project. Her images are simple but the emotions conveyed are instantly recognizable.

I love "Persepolis I" but I think my favorite of her works is her latest, "Chicken with Plums," about the last days of her uncle, a musician. Absolutely heartbreaking.
