Digital Kitchen

Digital Kitchen is one of the great design firms today whose forté shines in TV show titles. After being nominated for 10 Emmy Awards over the last 6 years, they win their third in 2007 for the titles of Dexter. Oh, and they do amazing TV spots and film titles too.

Founder, Paul Matthaeus, coined the term "brand theater" back in 2003(?). According to Puget Sound Business Journal (Seattle), "Brand Theater is Digital Kitchen's response to the changing nature of advertising."

When I first heard Paul Matthaeus speak at AIGA Move 2005, I remember being very intrigued by the idea of "Brand Theater". With the advent of new technologies like Tivo and Digital Video Recorders, this has been a high impact idea of capturing the audience's attention using more cinematic qualities and storytelling.

DK does this as good as anyone, and their TV titles are a great example of this captivating short narrative.

Remixing Reality

Tronic is a NYC-based multimedia studio founded by Columbia Architecture graduates Jesse Seppi and Vivian Rosenthal. Their work moves between film, animation, architecture, and experiential design. They've delivered unique digital visions for both RES and Creative Review; directed spots for Nike, GE, and Adidas; conceived and executed installations for Diesel, Sharp, and Wired; and, in general, have worked to eliminate lines delineating one form of creative media output from another. These visual futurists are boldly combining architecture, graphic design, film, and animation through new uses of technology to create striking and conceptually based work.
