As a high school student, in the early 1970's, I knew I wanted to have a career in art. Even with everyone telling me I would "never be able to make a living as an artist" I was determined.
One day I saw a new book at the public library in my hometown. It was Graphic Design by Milton Glaser. Not only did it give a name to what I wanted to do professionally; it showed others that it was possible to make a living by doing such work. Over the years Glaser's work has continued to inspire me in my own design efforts.
Years later, I had the privilege of meeting Milton Glaser in person at a reception for the speakers of the HOW Design Conference. He was just as genuine, humble and pleasant I had always hoped and imagined.
