I finally got a chance to hear and meet Louise Fili speak at the Type Director's Club "Night of the Italians" evet this past October 15, 2009. Louise is an amazing designer. From her books to her identity design, everything she works on has her undeniable print, and is a superb example of excellence in design.

I'm really digging this poster. I love the colors, the feel, and of course the typography.
Very, very nice!

When I was a kid growing up Neal Adams, illustrator for both DC and Marvel Comics was a huge inspiration. I loved his penciling technique, his style, etc.,. (He's the second person from the left in the photo.) He was very sofisticated and his illustrations inspired many illustrators to follow.

This past May 7th at a talk called "Photography meets book design", (Which by the way was an incredibly inspiring event on it's own, I didn't get to write about it, "Mea culpa"), I saw some book covers which featured the photography of Scott Nobles.
I set up an appointment to have him come over and show us his book, which was just amazing.

It's inspiring to see his photos and the way he's set them up to tell a story. The retro styling is great, the coloring and the photoshop work is impeccable.

Check out his website and hire him!

Music that inspires me.

Music has so much in common with design. So many of the principles that apply to one has it's counterpart in the other. Jazz in particular often plays a part in my design process. Here is a photo of myself with Jazz trumpet master Ray Vega. Got a chance to meet him last month and it was an amazing experience. Check him out if you get the chance.
