Flicking through the pages of The Architects' Journal this evening, I came across a really interesting interview with Fernando and Humberto Campana.
The Campana Brothers exhibited their recent works at London's Albion Gallery over the past month; the collection on show entitled TransPlastic showcased their contemporary-come-traditional wicker and plastic furniture designs. There is really something very inspiring about these.
"The transplastic series tells a fictional story: in a world made of plastic and synthetic matter, a fertile ground is laid for transgenic creations. natural fibres recover the plastic as in an immunological response: nature grows from the plastic and overpowers it."

Again from BomDesign, another fabulous graphic designer piece. Shed some light on recycling and make a home decor statement in one bold gesture. The Boeklampen by the Dutch design firm, Bomdesign, takes recycling literarily. Used books are handcrafted into elegant lighting fixtures.

With modern urban epicenters becoming more and more lively and populated, London’s Tate Modern Exhibition Global Cities looks at five major issues - size, speed, form, density and diversity - and their effects on ten major urban centers from Los Angeles to Mumbai, Shanghai, London, and others. The exhibition places comparative socio-economic and geographic data alongside video and photography by twenty artists and architects including Nigel Coates, Zaha Hadid and Patrick Schumacher, Fritz Haeg, Rem Koolhaas, Nils Norman and Richard Wentworth.
he actual exhibition was designed by Angus Hyland and William Russell taking place in the spectacular Turbine Hall at the Tate Modern in London from 20 June through 27 August (and it’s free!). Global Cities has been developed from a show that formed the centrepiece of the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2006 by the Tate curatorial team, Professor Richard Burdett and his team at the London School of Economics (LSE), with Pentagram providing art direction throughout.
If you’re interested how global development plays out in urban settings, this show’s for you.
I posted this article on Inhabitat, read the entire review here.
